FLYING BOAT SERVICE TOO DEAR
WELLINGTON TO AUCKLAND PROPOSAL
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. July 2. The cost of operation and conversion prohibited the institution of a flyingboat service between Wellington and Auckland, according to advice received from the Minister in charge of Civil Aviation (Mr F. Jones) by the Wellington Harbour Board. A suggestion had been made by the board that the air service between Wellington and Auckland could be improved by a flying-boat service.
Mr Jones said the expense of conversion and operation over such a short distance would make the service uneconomical.
The chairman of the Harbour Board (Mr W. H. Price) said to-day that he did not wish to comment upon the ruling given by thd Minister at the 'moment, but the question was regarded by the board as an important one, and no doubt members would express their opinions at the next meeting.
