N.Z. TENNIS PLAYERS WIN

SECOND ROUND IN LONDON CHAMPIONSHIPS LONDON, June 17. In the second round of the men’s singles at the London lawn tennis championships, J. A. Barry (N.Z.) beat D. G. Smart, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3; R. Falkenburg (U.S.) beat J. E. Robson (N.Z.), 6-4. 6-1; R. S. McKenzie (N.Z.) beat I. Rinkel (Holland), 8-6. 6-3; C. F. Long (Australia) beat A. C. van Swol (Holland), 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Wimbledon Seedings The All-England Tournament Committee upset tradition when it seeded last year’s winner, Yvon Petra, of France, seventh for this year’s Wimbledon singles. The practice has always been to rank the previous year’s winner No. 1, but this year Jack Kramer (United States) is at the top of the seedings. The seedings are as follows: Men’s Singles—Kramer. Bromwich, Tom Brown, Pails, Geoff Brown, Drobny, Petra, Falkenburg. Women’s Singles—Miss M. Osborne, Miss L. Brough, Miss D. Hart, Mrs P. C. Todd, Mrs N. Bolton, Mrs K. Menzies, Mrs S. P. Summers. Mrs E. W. Bostock. Men’s Doubles—Kramer and Falkenburg, Pails and Bromwich, Geoff Brown and C. Long, Tom Brown and B. Patty. If the seeding in the men’s singles works out as the committee apparently expects. Pails and Kramer will meet in one semi-final and Bromwich and Tom Brown in the other.
