OFFICIAL FORECASTS " The Press ” Special Service WELLINGTON, June 12. The weather forecast for Canterbury Issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with tne 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: a deep depression east of the South Island is moving slowly away. Forecast to 5 p.m.: fresh to strong south-westerly to southerly ■winds. Weather dull and cold, with occasional rain. Further outlook: only a temporary improvement. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate winds from a southerly quarter, freshening at times. A few occasional showers, but weather improving from the south. Temperatures rather cool. Further outlook: changeable westerly weather. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather was fine and calm yesterday until the late afternoon, when a moderate south-west wind brought heavy showers. The maximum temperature was 54.5 degrees. At 1 o'clock this morning the weather was overcast and showery, with a high south-west wind. The barometer, rising, registered 29.53 ' inches (1000.0 millibars).
