The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing witn me 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: a deep depression is passing eastwards over the South Island. Forecast to 5 p.m.: south-west winds soon prevailing, and becoming strong in exposed positions. Weather unsettled, with snow in the ranges. Widespread rain in South Canterbury, occasional showers in North Canterbury, and local hail showers. Temperatures cold. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Fresh south-west winds. Weather becoming fair in South Westland, occasional showers persisting elsewhere. Temperatures cold. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather was fine yesterday, with a light north-east breeze. The maximum temperature was 52.2 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was overcast with a light north-east breeze and heavy rain. The barometer, falling. registered 2».27in (991.2 millibars).
