MIGRANTS FROM BRITAIN
CATEGORIES TO BE SOUGHT MINISTER GIVES DETAILS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 11. The Government’s immigration policy, recently outlined by the Minister of Immigration (Mr A. McLagan). was endorsed by the Labour Party conference to-day. Mr McLagan gave details of the categories of inimigrants being sought under the terms of his recent announcement. The immigrants to be sought first, though it would not be possible to bring all of them during the present year, were as follows: 100 mental hospital nurses. 800 women for general hospitals, 250 domestics, 450 women (50 typists, 100 footwear workers, 100 woollen mill workers, 200 machinists), 120 miners (600 coming eventually), 100 sawmill and bush workers (500 eventually), 120 engineers, 100 fit men for gas, brick and tile works, 80 other men (footwear operatives and printing works employees).
