OBITUARY
DR. GEORGE CRAIG (P.A.) WELLINGTON. June 11. A former Comptroller of Customs in New Zealand, Dr. George Craig, C.M.G.. 1.5.0., LL.D., died in Sydney on Monday. Dr. Craig was bom in Dunedin in 1873 and joined the Public Services in 1891 as a cadet in the Customs Department. Timaru He later served in Christchurch, and in 1894 was promoted to a statistical clerk at the head office. After serving as examining officer in Dunedin and Wellington, he was employed by the department as a solicitor, and in 1910 became chief clerk. Tnree years later he was appointed Assistant-Comptroller of Customs. and from 1923 to 1935 was Comptroller Dr. Craig is survived by his wife. His three daughters, who were living in Malaya, lost their lives in the Japanese invasion Two of them were doctors and the other a lawyer.
