UNO PALESTINE COMMISSION

Attitude of Arab Organisation GENERAL STRIKE TO BE CALLED . (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7 p.m.) CAIRO, June 9. The Palestine Arab Higher Organisation, which has decided to boycott the United Nations Commission on Palestine, has also decided to call a general strike in Palestine on June 16 —the day the United Nations Commission is due to begin work. The organisation, in a communique announcing this, said the commission was “a new instrument for giving Britain another sort of mandate.” The communique said the Palestine Arabs insisted that Jewish immigration and the British mandate should

be ended and that an Arab Government should be established in Palestine. _ , The Jewish Agency for Palestine protested to the United Nations today against the circulation by the General Secretary of the United Nations (Mr Trygve Lie) of the British Note asking all nations to take precautions against illegal emigration to Palestine, and to discourage illegal activity which was likely to increase the difficulty of finding a solution to the Palestine problem. In circulating the Note Mr Lie had asked the Governments to inform him of any action they might take on the British request. . , „ ... t The agency said that the British Government’s and Mr Lie’s requests “would appear to be altogether out of order.”
