POST OFFICE WORK NOT DELAYED

EMERGENCY LIGHTING ARRANGED . The new schedule of power cut-offs, including the two evening black-outs, is not expected to cause any delay in work at the Chief Post Office, which has made special lighting arrangements to meet the position. Employees during both these evening periods will work as usual on mail-sorting, in the telephone exchange, and the telegraph room, but special emergency lighting, most of it from kerosene lamps, has been organised. The Post Office has no stahd-by plant of its own, but with a combination of emergency equipment it expects to pass through tne present power shortages without any delays in work, although inconvenience will certainly be caused the staff. Special batteries are providing lights for the staff at the public counters during the hours when the power is off, and so far have proved adequate for the needs of both staff and public. Batteries, too, keep the telephone system working throughout a 24-hour day.
