HIGH HONOUR CONFERRED

SIR R. HEATON RHODES Advice of his promotion to Bailiff, Grand Cross of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, has been received by Sir R. Heaton Rhodes. “Happy to inform you His Majesty has sanctioned your promotion to Bailiff, Grand Cross of the Order. Warmest congratulations from us all at St. John’s Gate, Jerusalem,” reads

a cablegram received by Sir Heaton Rhodes from the Earl of Clarendon, secretary-general of the order. This honour is at present held, it is believed, by n 6 more than eight members of the order, excepting royalty. It has been bestowed on Sir Heaton Rhodes in recognition of his work during the early days of the commandery in New Zealand. Sir Heaton Rhodes is the only Bailiff of the order outside Great Britain.
