BUILDING PERMITS

FIGURES FOR LAST YEAR Building permits to the value of £12,203,000 were issued in the four main centres of New Zealand in 1946, permits for new dwellings representing £7.275,000 of the total. The totals of all permits, which include Government buildings, for the main centres are given in the Abstract of Statistics as follows:—Auckland. £5.877.000; Wellington, £2,696,000; Christchurch, £2.024.000; Dunedin, £1,606,000. In the four principal centres 4717 permits were issued for new dwellings. The totals, with the value in parenthesis, were:—Auckland, 2298 (£3.592.000); Wellington, 1169 (£1,815.000); Christchurch. 825 (£1,182,000); Dunedin, 424 (£686,000).
