TRAFFIC BRIDGE NEEDED

Sir. —Some years ago, I understand, representations were made to the Christchurch City Council and Heathcote County Council for a traffic bridge at the eastern end of Malcolm avenue. As a more or less newcomer to Beckenham, I feel that the need for this bridge is apparent. Both BeckenSt. Martins are already thickly populated, and residences are going up apace on the St. Martins side of the river. The lack of bridges over this strip of a river must result in motor vehicles having to travel thousands of extra miles during the year. Besides providing a much-needed outlet from Beckenham to St. Martins and vice versa, a bridge at the point mentioned would also afford considerable relief to the Tennyson street bridge. —Yours, etc., MALCOLM AVENUE. June 10. 1947.
