LOADING BAN MAY BE EXTENDED

WATERSIDERS’ PROTEST IN SYDNEY SYDNEY, June 10. Sydney watersiders still refuse to load corrugated iron, in protest against housing conditions in Redfern, and the Waterside Workers’ Federation is considering banning the export of all building materials. The State Minister of Building Materials (Mr C. H. Matthews) said that since the storm a fortnight ago 350 tons of roofing iron had been made available to councils in the Redfern area. An inspection of the area had revealed that a good deal of the damage had been caused not by storm but by the neglect of properties by their owners over the last 50 years. The Mayor of Redfern (Mr A. Howarth) said that so far not one sheet of iron had arrived of *he quantity promised by the Government. About 500 houses had been repaired with iron bought legitimately or on the black market. “The real trouble,” he added, “is that we have tried to do in six months what should have taken 50 years.’’
