WALLACE’S CANDIDATE DEFEATED (Rec. 9.30 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, June 8. The Republican candidate, Mr Russell V. Mack, who upheld President Truman’s foreign policy, narrowly defeated the Progressive Democrat candidate, Mr Charles Savage, who was backed by Mr Henry Wallace, in the election for the Washington state’s third district seat in the House of Representatives. In the primary election, Mr Savage defeated the Democratic candidate supporting President Truman, and the election was watched closely throughout the country as a possible guide to political sentiment in 1948.
