TRAM STOPS TO BE REDUCED

MEASURE TO SAVE POWER The number of stops by trams in Christchurch will be reduced as a power-saving measure. This was decided by the Christchurch Tramway Board in committee yesterday, and announced later by the general manager (Mr J. F. Fardell). Details of the actual stops to be made would be worked out and announced, he said, a considerable saving in power had been made in Auckland by the adoption of similar measures. A further saving of. power will result from another decision of the board. Trams for Cashmere Hills will run to Barrington street, and passengers will then be transferred to motor-buses, which will run to the Sign of the Takahe. This system will come into force next week.
