PLAY BOY AND LOYAL SCOTT

LIKELY TYPES AT HUTT PARK The consistent Play Boy brought his record for the season to three second placings, four third placings, and a fourth placing in 10 starts when he beat all but Village Prince in the first division of the Discovery Handicap at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. Driven by D. G. .Nyhan, who trains him for Mr T. Moorcock, Play Boy was in fourth place to Judge Volo, Petite Direct, and Village Prince when the field settled down; but he moved up to follow Village Prince when that pacer took the lend with half a mile to go. Play Boy could make no impression on Village Prince in the sprint home; but he beat the rest Qf the field easily, and a winning turn should come for him next Saturday. Bred by Mr Moorcock, Play Boy is a four-year-old gelding by Jack Potts from Marjorie Wood, which is by Nelson Bingen from a mare which is by a Fiordwood colt from Beckenham Lass. Loyal Scott, which finished fast 1n second place to King’s Messenger in the second division, is a speedy type; and he may eventually take a much tighter mark than most of the horses he met on Saturday. Trained at Yaldhurst by G. B. Noble for Mr J. R. McKenzie, Loyal Scott was unplaced at his first start for the season; but at, his only other appearance he finished particularly well to beat Worthy Dick ift the first division of the Kowai Trot Handicap at the Amberley Racing Club’s meeting on April 26. A three-year-old gelding, Loyal Scott is by U. Scott from Loyal Bonny, which is by Grattan Loyal from Bon Rey, by Rey de Oro from Bonilene, both of which were imported to New Zealand. A wellbred mare by The Bondsman from Madeline Marshall, Bonilene’s name figures in the pedigrees of some of the fastest pacers to race in New Zealand. Jottings Port Bowen was well placed in the early part of the Kaitoke Handicap at Hutt Park on Saturday, but he drifted over the last three furlongs. Judge Volo, a five-year-old gelding by Lusty Volo from Judith, is a promising pacer in R. Dunn’s stable at Hamilton. He should finish in a place on the second day of the Wellington Trotting Clulj’s meeting. Mr L. G. Tisch decided to take no risks with Tudor Minstrel, and he was scratched when the track was heavy at Hutt Park on Saturday. A. J. Wilson is pleased with the progress being made by his trotter, Terrytoon, and he expects himsto develop into a good performer next season. Paperman showed some speed to finish in fifth place in the Tasman Handicap at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting. By Gold Paper from Eva Truman, Paperman is trained by A. J. B. Norris, Cambridge. Polka Dot, the dam of recent winners in Shooting Star and Aussie Boy, has been booked to go to Josedale Grattan this season. Now at Templetoii The five-year-old mare, Miranda Scott, which is by U. Scott from Good Lady, is the latest addition to C. R. Berkett’s team at Templeton. Owned by Mrs M. Wilkins, Miranda Scott was trained for her races in the early part of the season by D. G. Nyhan. Lost Ground Novelda, which was confidently supported in the Waiwhetu Handicap at Huct Park on Saturday, lost her chance when she began slowly. A three-year-old filly by Dillon Hall from Charming Child, Novelda has.shown good form in South-; land this season, and she may atone for her mistake on the second day of the meeting. Her dam. Charming Child, which also left a- winner in Notus to Dillon Hall, is to be mated with Josedale Grattan this season.
