STOCK EXCHANGES SMALL TURNOVER AND FIRM PRICES The turnover was small on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday, but prices maintained recent levels. National Bank of Australasia shares, 12s 6d paid, were IJd higher at 20s 6d. Dominion Breweries shares showed no change on reported business at 70s. C.F.C.A. preference shares, which changed hands at 56s 6d, made the first business this year, and showed a rise of 3s 6d 'on the last* local business. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile ordinary stock rose sharply on reported business at £145, £8 12s above the last sale in May. Colonial Sugar shares had further business at £56. N.Z. Forest Products ordinary shares were dealt in at 5s 6d, showing a fall of 6d. Reid Rubber contributing shares were unchanged at Bs, as were Woolworths, Ltd., shares at 25s 3d. SYNDICATE TO PRODUCE “PEOPLE’S” CAR A syndicate headed by the former Queenslander, Mr Sidney Cotton, London financier and well-known as an inventor and aviator, has bought the plant and stock of Grantham Productions, Ltd makers of the "people’s car.” states an Australian Associated Press message from London. Grantham Productions went into liquidation recently with £1,000,000 worth of orders on hand. The managing director of the companv Mr W D Kendall. MP. for Grantham' said that the production of tractors would for some time have priority over the production of the “people’s car,” but a six horse-power model, costing £250, was planned.
