REV. OTHO FITZGERALD

MEMORIAL SERVICE HELD A memorial service for the Rev. Otho Fitz Gerald was held in Holy Trinity Church, Avonside, last evening. Mr Fitz Gerald was vicar of Holy Trinity Church for 21 years before his retirement, and served in the parish for 23 years. The service was conducted by the Rev. W. S. Southward, vicar of Avonside, who paid a tribute to Mr FitzGerald’s life work. He referred to buildings erected and paid for during Mr Fitz Gerald’s time in the parish, among which were the mission churches of St. Aidan’s and St. Oswald’s, the parish hall, the vicarage, and the day school. Mr G. Lilley sang “Crossing the Lar,” by request for Mrs Fitz Gerald, and other special hymns were sung. Mr E. Hitchcock read one of the lessons.
