FOOD IN IRELAND

Sir,—Please allow me space to discuss reports about food being plentiful in Ireland. I am from that country, and I get a letter once a month. All I read in them is that they get 31b of dark flour to each person, very little meat, and worst of all, no firing. Coaldust costs 2s a cwt, and there is no turf to be got. ■ I read in a paper that Father Michael Brennan says there are plenty of cows in Ireland and pigs cannot be sold. If that is plentiful, who have I to believe—the person who said there was only one road in Ireland, the road out of it?— Yours, etc., HAWARDEN, N.C. May 19, 1947.
