NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION
TIMARU WATERSIDERS
ATTITUDE TO NATIONAL EXECUTIVE
In a statement made to-day, Mr J. R. Beltenger, secretary of the Timaru branch of the Waterside Workers’ Union, said that a stop-work meeting of the branch had been held this morning to hear a report of the recent meeting between its national executive and,the Cabinet. “A motion of no confidence was carried unanimously in the national officers and national executive, and the branch decided to dissociate itself from any action likely to endanger the Government,” said Mr Bellenger. “Further, the branch disagreed with the statement by the national president (Mr H. Barnes) that the whole organisation is 100 per cent, behind the action taken by the national executive.” None of the national officers of the union was present at yesterday’s meeting. but the acting-president (Mr A. Drennan) and the acting-secretary (Mr R. J. O’Donnell) are expected to visit Timaru this week.
