YOUTH FATALLY SHOT TRIPPED WHILE CARRYING GUN (P.A.) HASTINGS, May 12. Through the discharge of a shotgun into his face, John Albert Christopher, aged 15J, a college student on holiday from Wellington at Clifton Station, was killed instantly. The boy was a member of a rabbitshooting party, the members of which were walking across a paddock when the boy, who was some distance in front of the others, tripped while negotiating a small rise. As he fell forward his gun was discharged into his cheekbone. FOOTBALLER’S DEATH (P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 12. A Rugby footballer, Ralph Martin Byfield, aged 24, single, who suffered a fractured neck and spinal injuries on Saturday, died to-day. He was injured while playing for Parnell in a second grade match against Suburbs. ELDERLY MAN RUN OVER BY TRAIN (P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 12. An elderly man was run over by a train and killed at the Newmarket station to-night. He was Edward Hall, aged 70. a former bushman. Shortly after 7 p.m., after a passenger train had passed through the station, he was found on the inward line with his left leg amputated above the ankle and head injuries. A doctor was called, but the man was dead.
CYCLIST RUN OVER BY
TRUCK A cyclist had a fortunate escape from serious injury yesterday morning, when the front wheel and rear wheel of a truck passed over his body. The injured man was Arthur Shepherd, of 271 Dyers road, Bromley. He was cycling with a companion about 7.50 a.m. when the two bicycles collided. Shepherd’s cycle swerved across the road and collided with a truck driven by David Patullo, a poultry farmer, of 602 Gloucester street Shepherd was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital, where his condition yesterday was reported to be satisfactory.
