Brigadier J. M. Mitchell, of Christchurch, formerly officer commanding New Zealand troops in Egypt, arrived at Auckland from England on the Ruahine on Saturday morning. He has been studying structural steel and welding in the United Kingdom since his discharge.—(P.A.) Messrs W. H. Montgomery, N. Wright, W. J. H. Coop, H. L. Lewthwaite. E. E. Patten, E. L. Breitmeyer, M. C. Barclay, and O. C. Stanbury have been appointed members of the Little River Domain Board. Appointments to licensing committees gazetted last week werfe:—AVbh, Messrs C. A. Cooper and C. V. Lester; Fendalton, Messrs A. M. Carpenter and J. N. Clarke; Lyttelton, Mr W. T. Lester; Riccarton, Messrs J. T. Gallafher, R. A. Hamilton, O. Jacobsen, and '. Miller; Selwyh, Messrs A. F. Fisher, W. Johnston, and B. MacNamara. The gold badge of the Christchurch Competitions Society was presented to the immediate past president, Mr J. B. Williams, at the opening of the society’s thirty-seventh season at the Civic Theatre on Saturday by the president, Mr C. D. Henderson, who said that the award was in recognition of Mr Williams’s services as president. Mr D. B. Carrad, formerly a member of the teaching staff of Dudley Grammar School, Worcestershire, arrived in Auckland on the Ruahine on Saturday to take up his duties as lecturer in German at Victoria University College.
