The Rev. P. O. C. Edwards, who will arrive in Christchurch to-morrow accompanied by Mrs Edwards and their child, will take up the position of chaplain at Christ’s College. He was educated at . Merchant Taylors’ School, London, and St. John’s College, Oxford, and was engaged in educational work before the war. He has only recently been demobilised after service with the Royal Air Force. The following passed a first aid examination held at St. John Ambulance Headquarters on May B:—Mrs Maud Sutherland, Misses Jessie Andrews, Betty J. Bellion, Josephine Carney, Noreen Alice Chapman, Nola Claridge, Catherine Galvin, Koa Jones, Helen May, Joy McGlinchy. Beth McGregor, Betty Anne Renner, Irene Savage, Eunice Josephine Scott, Reijel Skjellerup, Olive Tate, Ella Tucker, Shirley J. Turnbull, Marjorie Webster, Maureen Woodward. On Thursday, the children of Sumner School were entertained at a fancy dress party held in the Town Hall in the afternoon, and in the evening former pupils and their parents attended an enjoyable fancy diess ball. Mother’s Day was marked by the Cambrian Society of Canterbury at an evening social held on Saturday. Mr J. G. Parry presided. It was announced that the first parcels in the Food for Wales campaign would be forwarded to Welsh addresses early this month. Items (each with “Mother” as its theme) were given by Mesdames Gwynneth Dorrans, G. Parry, John Thompson, Misses Barbara Leslie and Shirley Chapman, and Mr T. G. Rogers. Many New Zealand women who were known as “Moms” by American servicemen who enjoyed their hospitality during the Americans’ stay in New Zealand, have not been forgotten by their former American friends. Yesterday, Mother’s Day, they had received as gifts flowers which had been ordered by cablegram from America. A leading Wellington florist said that she had received many cablegrams to fulfil such orders. The lady editor of “The Press” gratefully acknowledges receipt of magazines for sick persons from Mrs C. M. Ollivier, Mrs A. Bunz, Miss Bunt, and Mrs James Middleton, jun., and an umbrella and set of chessmen from the Misses Harkness, an umbrella from E. Smith, puzzles from Mrs Gill (Hundalee), and matches and magazines sent anonymously. • A class for men and women in elementary and intermediate first aid will commerce at the Red Cross rooms, 105 a Cashel street, on Monday. May 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. Intending members are asked to give their names to the V.A.D. secretary at the rooms between 9.30 a.m. and 2 p.m. as soon as possible. Fee 3s 6d. Advt.
