£25,000,000 FROM TOURISTS

YEAR’S LIKELY YIELD IN BRITAIN (From Our Own Correspondent.) . LONDON, April 20. Visitors from Vie United States. Sweden, and Switzerland are likely to preponderate in Britain’s tourist traffic this year which, it is estimated, will yield about £25,000.000. Unlimited credit can be placed at the disposal of visitors from America and Switzerland. Credit for Swedish tourists must first be approved by the Board of Exchange Control in their country. Such approval is seldom refused. People from other European countries are less fortunate. French tourists are allowed only £5 sterling and £8 6s 8d in francs lor each trip; Belgian visitors £2O sterling and £lO in francs. A Belgian tourist may, according to his circumstances, also avail himself of travellers’ cheques in Britain. At the Danish Legation it was stated . that it was not possible for tourists to visit Britain at present. Visas were confined to businessmen and officials. Only trade representatives and students are coming from Norway. An official of the Travel Association said that an estimate that 70.000 Americans would visit Britain this year could be regarded as "very conservative.” There would also be a large number of Swiss visitors who would normally have gone to Germany.
