SOUTH AFRICANS WIN FOOTBALL TEST
AUSTRALIA BEATEN BY TWO GOALS TO ONE (Rec. 8 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 11. After a poor showing in the first half, the South African Association football team changed their tactics and beat Australia by 2 goals to 1. in the first test of the tour on the Sydney Cricket Ground yesterday. During the first half Australia almost ran the visitors off their feet, but at half-time they led only 1 goal to 0, with a score by R. Date. Early in the second half the South Africans began to play brilliant attacking football. L. Anley evened th* scores after 20 minutes. The deciding goal came from a penalty when Anley was illegally tackled. Australian players and part of the crowd disputed the referee's decision, but all observers say it was undoubtedly a correct one. Desperate Australian attacks two corners, but the scOft rtHtoiaed ufichanged. This is the first AssbtiatiOft test match South Afrits hSi wdfl they beat Ireland 23 years ago. The gate receipts of £4170. paid by 38 312 people, was a record for an Association I game in Australia. j
