NO TRAMWAY STOPPAGE
Stop-Work Meeting Called Off discussion With BOARD The stoppage of tram and bus services in Christchurch, scheduled for Tuesday morning, will not now take place, as the Christchurch Tramway Workers’ Union yesterday afternoon called off the stop-work meeting. The union and the Tramway Board decided yesterday to meet on Monday morning to discuss the union’s demand for a payment of 2s 6d a shift for night workers at the car sheds. “If ho agreement is reached, at the meeting,, the setting up of a disputes committee will follow,” , said the union's president (Mr L. C. Southon). «The establishment %nder Clause 41 of the award of a disputes committee if the negotiations break down, has been agreed to by the board’s general manager (Mr J. F. FardelD.” The procedure now being followed was contained in instructions from the national headquarters of the Tramway Workers’ Union, said Mr Southon. Night workers at the car sheds, numbering 45, are not paid the shift payment of Is 6d an hour given to traffic men.
