COUNCIL OF WOMEN
ANNUAL MEETING It was decided at the annual meeting of the Christchurch, branch of the National Council of Women, held in the Chamber of Commerce Hall last evening, that the Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrews) and the City Council be thanked for supporting the protests of the branch about the milk zoning scheme. Members expressed the opinion that it was too early yet to decide whether the proposed new scheme w*as satisfactory. When the annual report and bal-ance-sheet were adopted it was announced that the Women’s Rally, held in March, showed a net profit of £2l, and Miss M. Wigley was thanked for her work in connexion with the rally. On the recommendation of the Mental Welfare Trust Committee it was decided to suggest to the authorities that Mrs J. Black should assist Mrs T. Tomlinson, who is the official visitor to the mental hospital, which she visits every fortnight. After some discussion it was decided that the Pan-Pacific Women’s Committee of New Zealand be asked to invite to the Dominion outstanding women who attend th? Pan-Pacific Women’s Conference to be held in Honolulu in August, 1948. Members considered that by this interchange of visits interest in international affairs would be stimulated and women would be encouraged to use their influence to foster harmonious relations amongst nations and so prevent future wars. Miss Joan Rattray (Auckland), who, since attending the Dominion Conference of the National Council of Women in Timaru last month, has toured Southland and Otago and addressed many audiences, including 2500 secondary school pupils, was welcomed to the meeting by the president, Miss M. McLean, who presided.
