ORIGIN OF FIRE UNKNOWN

From Our Own Reporter GREYMOUTH, May 8. Engineers from the Railways Department, Christchurch, to day inspected the remains of the rail-car which caught fire near Poerua while it was travelling from Greymoutb to ■Christchurch on Tuesday evening. The origin of the fire could not be ascertained. . Efforts, were made to-day to make repairs so that the rail-car could be taken to Christchurch, where it is hoped to salvage the power unit and bogies. The rail-car will be taken to Otira early to-morroW morning, when plans will be made about the best transporting it to the Addington workshops. So far as can be ascertained, the loss of the rail-car will cause no alteration to the Christchurch-West Coast service, and the double-unit rail-car service on Friday nights from Greymouth will continue.
