GREYHOUND RACING
TOTALISATOR PERMITS SOUGHT
If the Royal Commission on Gaming and Racing recommended that provision should be made for betting facilities for greyhound facing, the Christchurch Coursing and Greyhound Racing Club wished to put forward a claim for the control of the sport in Canterbury. This was stated to the commission yesterday by William George Robson, a civil servant, for whom Mr J. T. Watts appeared. The only way the sport could make progress was by permission to have totalisators. said the witness, who was judge of the club. In Christchurch the club coursed with live hares during the winter months, but it wanted to enlarge the scope of the sport and provide mechanical hare racing during evenings in the summer. There was a suitable stadium available at Monica Park.
Mr Robson said the club supported the evidence and submissions to the commission on behalf of the New Zealand Greyhound Association
