INDUSTRIES FAIR IN BRITAIN
MANY BUYERS FROM OVERSEA
(Special Correspondent N.ZPA..) (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, May 6. New Zealanders are among the thousands of oversea buyers attending the British Industries Fair at Olympia and Earl’s Court in. London and at Castle Bromwich in Birmingham. Opinion generally agrees on two B about the fair, which is ti’s shop window and which was a famous feature before the war. The first is that buyers all indicate that Britain has lost none of her skill in producing quality goods. The second is that there is some disappointment that orders cannot be fulfilled quickly. Delays range from six months to three years. A third opinion is that some of the prices are inclined to be high. Nevertheless, orders are streaming in from buyers in all parts of the world. Ih London, over 8000 oversea buyers visited both sections in the first day and over 9000 home buyers, and in Birmingham there were nearly 300 oversea buyers and 7000 home buyers. Oversea buyers have preference, for the majority of goods are still for export only. . , From the public viewpoint, there ate many novel ideas to be seen. They include a pram that folds up into a suitcase, bathing suits which may be inflated to enable non-swunmers to float, a tin which requires no tinopener, but which can be opened with a skewer, a front door key or anything pointed, and a chair with a single press-button action to adjust it to any one of six positions. The accent on all goods, whether for use in the home or ill industry, is quality. The comment of offe oversea buyer was: ‘ ‘There is not much wrong with a country which can produce a fair like this.”
