WAHINE TO COME OFF RUN
EFFECT ON TASMAN SERVICE ANNUAL OVERHAUL IN JUNE “ The Press " Special Service AUCKLAND, April 17. The Tasman Sea passenger trade will receive a severe set-back early in June, when the Union Company’s passenger steamer Wahine will be withdrawn for annual overhaul and survey. She will later relieve the Interisland ferry steamers Hinemoa and Rangatira while they receive their annual overhaul, and it is not expected that she will be available for the intercolonial service before September. The Wahine will make three more round voyages from Wellington to Sydney and will be withdrawn on her return to Wellington on June 3. Her absence will mean that Tasman passenger sailing will be restricted to infrequent voyages by occasional ships. The Wahine was put on the Tasman run in February, after the new interisland ferry steamer Hinemoa entered the Wellington-Lyttelton service, to replace the Huddart Parker liner Wanganella. It was then announced that she would continue on the run between Wellington and Sydney for an indefinite period. For the Tasman service the Wahine has accommodation for about 300 passengers.
