SALE OF TROTTING HORSES
A sale of trotting horses owned by Mr James Cass (Wakanui, Mid-Canterbury), who has given up farming, was held at Wakanui yesterday. Details are as follows :
Free Bell, by Rodgerwood colt—Denver Huon mare, with colt foal by Casanova, and stinted to Casanova.—Mr S. A. Orr

Caster, gelding, three years, by Casanova—Denver Huon mare.—Mr S. T. Webster (Tinwald), 85 guineas. Piebald gelding by Casanova—Woodbell, two years.—Mr P. Clinton (Darfield). 39 guineas. Chestnut filly by Casanova—Free Bell, three years.—Mr S. E. Boyce (Dorie), 35 guineas. Casanova gelding, two years.—Mr S. T. W’ebster (Tinwald). 50 guineas. The trotting stallion Casanova, by Wrack—Pearl Child, owned by Mr J. Cass (Wakanui), was passed in at auction at 900 guineas, the last bid coming from a local buyer. Trained at Pukeuri < Dance Hall, which is now trained by J. M. Bain, Pukeuri, showed her best form for the season when she beat Scotch Drift by half a- length in the second division of the Morven Handicap at the Waimate Racing Club’s meeting on March -J. and on that form she may earn some of the prize-money in tlie Otipua Trot Handicap at the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting to-morrow. A four-year-old mare. Dance Hall is by Dillon Hall from Etta JSingen, which is by Nelson Bingen from Henrietta, by Rothschild from Cassandra. Due For a Win Sure Rey’s record this season in eludes two second placings. three third placings, and three fourth, placings, and on this form the Quite Sure gelding should prove hard to beat in the Ladies’ Bracelet on the second day of the Manawalu Trotting Club’s meeting, which will be held a< Awapuni to-morrow. The following horses have been balloted out of the Washdyke Trotting Handicap, to be decided at the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting next Saturday: Lucky Dan. Gallant Thorpe. Our Babe, Patricia Hall, and Sally Dale. Divisions will not now be necessary.
