MAJESTIC
“HOLIDAY IN MEXICO” The new Technicolour musical film “Holiday in Mexico,” which will run for its fourth week at the Majestic Theatre to-day, is photographed against a background of rich Mexican scenery. The film tells the story of a widowed American Ambassador to Mexico (Walter Pidgeon) and his young daughter (Jane Powell) During a holiday the ambassador meets an old friend, Toni Karpathy (Ilona Massey), and revives a romance which started at her father’s castle in Hungary. His daughter resents the interest in Toni. She breaks off her romance with Stanley Owen (Roddy McDowall) and imagines that she is in love with the famous concert pianist. Jose Iturbi. The happy and human story is additionally enjoyable because of the rich musical background. Jane Powell sings many delightful numbers, Jose Iturbi plays Chopin’s “Polonaise,” and part of Rachmaninoff’s second piano concerto, and there are pleasing selections by Xavier Cugat and his orchestra.
