AMENDMENT TO MINUTES
LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL f MOTION ON SALARY OF TOWN CLERK As soon as the minutes of the pluvious meeting had been read at the meeting of the Lyttelton Borough Council last night, Cr. W. T. Lindsay took exception to an item in the minutes which stated that the council had agreed to increase the salary of the town clerk (Mr J. Thompson) by £25. Cr. Lindsay discussed the attitude of the town clerk when the resolution was passed. “He told us he would not accept the increase offered,” said Cr. Lindsay, “and would not do certain things. I say, therefore, that the minute must lapse.” The council upheld Cr. Lindsay and the minutes were amended and adopted. Cr. D. G. Miller moved the suspension of the standing orders in order that the discussion on matters concerning the town clerk, which was not finished at the previous meeting, could be completed. The motion was seconded by Cr. Lindsay and carried. Cr. F. H. Heal said that as the previous discussion had taken place in camera, he would move that the council go into camera. The motion wai seconded by Cr. C. A. Bridger. Cr. Lindsay and Cr. Miller opposed the motion. “If is time that more oi our business was done in open council,” said Cr. Lindsay. “We have been classed as men ‘dead from the kne» up’ all around the town.” f He was of opinion that discussion staff salaries should be taken camera, said Cr. R. E. Cairns.
