ROLL OF HONOUR UNVEILED

CEREMONY AT LINWOOD METHODIST CHURCH A roll of honour bearing the names of the men of the church who served in the recent war was unveiled by the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr E. H. Andrews) in the Linwood Methodist Church last evening. The memorial tablet, on which 22 names appear, is placed at the rear of the church next to the roll of honour for those who served in the 1914-18 war. Part of the memorial window above the tablets has been altered so that its inscription refers to both wars. This window was also unveiled by the Mayor, who paid tribute in a memorial address to those from the church who had served in the armed forces The presiding minister was the Rev. H. W. Payne, whose service was conducted before a large congregation. The lesson was read by the president of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association (Mr D. W. Russell). After the unveiling ceremony. “Last Post” and “Reveille” were sounded and the congregation sang the National Anthem. An address was given by the Rev. H. L. Fiebig (connexional secretary). The soloist was Mrs G. G. Mitchell. _______________
