CAR FALLS INTO RIVER
YOUNG MAN DROWNED AT WANGANUI
(P.A.) WANGANUI, March 23. A young man was drowned in the Wanganui river a few minutes after midnight on Saturday. He was Donald lan Gilbert, aged 22. single, of Wanganui. Gilbert and. two other persons, including the driver. J. H. Connett, were travelling in a motor-car from a dance at Upokongaro, seven miles from Wanganui, to Kawhaike further up the river, when the car went over a bank, falling 30 feet into 10 feet of water. The other occupants got out but Gilbert was trapped in the back seat. The body was recovered at daylight today. Gilbert was a prominent lawn tennis olayer and represented Wanganui in a -hristie Cup match against Taranaki on Saturday. CARS COLLIDE Alistar McKenzie, of 15 Moana street, suffered lacerations to his hands and knees when two cars collided at Bassett street. Burwood, yesterday. He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital at 12.30 p.m. and last evening was said to be in a satisfactory condition.
