IMPROVEMENT IN N.Z. CRICKET
ENGLISH MANAGER’S COMMENT Although he had not yet seen the Auckland and Canterbury players in action, he thought that there was a definite improvement in the standard of New Zealand cricket, said Major R. Howard, manager of the visiting M.C.C. team, yesterday. The improvement was, he thought, remarkable in that so little time had elapsed since the end of the war. The English players were enjoying the tour very much. Major Howard said. He hoped that the test match today would be as good a game as the other two his side had played in New Zealand. Major Howard referred particularly to the Otago match, and said that the English players would certainly try to make the test as interesting as the game played at Carisbrook.
