TILE DRAINS FOR SHOW GROUNDS
IMPROVEMENT PLAN OUTLINED MR G. H. GRIGG NEW PRESIDENT The, sodden condition of the grounds at the Christchurch Metropolitan Show last November, after heavy rain, had caused the general committee to plan extensive improvements, said the president (Mr G. O. Rutherford), at the annyal meeting of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association last evening. The committee had taken steps, he said, to improve the oval and the horse assembly paddocks by the installation of tile drains. Other improvements for the convenience of members and patrons, notable among which was an improved entrance and exit system, were being considered. The committee was anxious to effect another improvement in the form of “drive-through” pavilions for the selling of sheep, mainly for the convenience of buyers at the ram fairs and stud sales which were conducted at the Show Grounds. Such pavilions would have a use as demonstration pens at show time, he said. During the evening a tribute was paid by Mr Rutherford to Mr J. O McGillivray, who, for the last 24 years, had been the honorary treasurer of the association.
The election of officers resulted as follows:—president, Mr G. H. Grigg-vice-president. Mr G. Hartnell; honorary treasurer, Mi- W. C. Brydon; general committee, Messrs P. V. Bailey C. H. Bethell, J. Brooks, I. L. M. Coop’ D. Deans, p. W. J. Gould, R. S. Gunn, G F. Hutton. M. E. Jenkins, D C. Macfarlane. J. L. Macfarlane, M F Macfarlane F. E. Martyn, H. Menzies, W. J. McMillan, H. V.
