STOCK EXCHANGES TURNOVER SMALL AND MARKET FIRM The market was quiet but firm on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday, and the turnover was small. Inscribed stock, 21 per cent., maturing 15/9/47, had business at £99 10s ex interest, while the 2b per cent. War Loan, maturing 1/10/53, rose 2s 6d on a reported sale at £97 15s; 3 per cent, inscribed stock, maturing 15/2/55-58, rose 7s 6d on the last sale, at £lOO. There was a strong demand for Bank of Australasia shares. National Bank of New Zealand, and Union Bank shares, without any business resulting. A sale of South British Insurance shares reported at 96s 3d showeu an easing of Is 3d on. the last local sale. P. and O. deferred stock had a reported sale at 91s 6d, a drop of 2s, while New Zealand Breweries shares maintained recent levels with reported business at 60s. Anthony Hordern shares rose Is when 100 changed hands at 29s 6d. British’ Tobacco shares were 6d lower at 575. Broken Hill Proprietary shares were firm with reported business at 51s Dunlop (New Zealand) shares had further business at the unchanged price of Ils 9d.
