Had Every Chance Lady Welbeck earned £230 for her two minor placings at Trentham. She had every chance in the Champion Hack Handicap on Saturday, but was just not good enough. The race was run to suit her, as the whole field showed a disinclination to make the pace, and this enabled her to be handily placed over the last halfmile. Although she was in charge commencing the final furlong, she had no chance with the winner, Pola. The fact that Pola was eased nearing the post made her second placing look better than it was. Tailed Off

Loyal Bian tailed off in the middle stages of the President’s Handicap, and was obviously feeling the hard going. From his hopeless position he came home well enough to suggest that he will have prospects over middle distances when the ground is easier. Loyal'Bian is a four-year-old bay gelding by Lang, Bian from Smypathetic by Martian from the imported mare, Sweet Charity, which bred several winners, including The Surgeon, the winner of 12 races. Loyal Bian is a half-brother to Khurja. which won the Wellington Steeplechase. He is trained at Hawera by H. J. Callahan. |
