CHRISTCHURCH CLUB Fourteen boats started in a crews’ race sailed on the estuary on Saturday by the ! Christchurch Yacht Club. The course had to be shortened because the light breeze which prevailed over the opening stages dropped away to almost a dead calm. The Takapunas were away first in a bunch, with* the Idle-alongs tailing the fleet. Surprise led the field. Tantalus took over the lead at the tripod mark and the finishing -order was:— Tantalus 1, Scamper 2. Surprise 3. Vira 4. The final result was (race started at 1.15 p.m.): Scamper (J. Churcher), 2min, 3hr 23min 56sec, 1; Tantalus (J. Cropp), scr, 3hr 24min 22sec, 2; Vira (R. Bassett), . smin, 3hr 24min 21sec, 3.
