WESTERN AUSTRALIAN ELECTIONS

LABOUR PARTY MAJORITY REDUCED (Rec. 11 p.m.) PERTH. March 16. Counting so far in the Western Australian elections indicates that the Labour Party will be returned to power, but with a greatly reduced majority. Because of the scattered nature of the electorates many votes have yet to be counted, but it seems probable that the present Government will have a majority of one over all other parties in the new Parliament against a majority of eight in the last Parliament. All the Ministers who were not elected unopposed are certain of re-election. The Leader of the Australian Liberal Party (Mr R. G. Menzies) An Melbourne said the result in Western Australia, as in South Australia recently, showed a definite swing away from Labour and both results should be heartening to the Liberals in New South Wales, where State elections would be held, probably in May. e
