GERMANY AND AUSTRIA
MINISTERS’ DEPUTIES REACH DEADLOCK
DISPOSAL OF GERMAN ASSETS
(Rec. 7 p.m.) MOSCOW, March 15. The Foreign Ministers’ deputies met again in Moscow and continued discussions for the formation of a consultative body for the German peace treaty with representatives drawn from the States which participated in the war against Germany. Britain and America continued to object to Albania’s inclusion in this body. Reuter’s correspondent in Moscow says: “The meetings of the deputies on Germany and on Austria both ended in absolute deadlock, and two more problems were handed back to the Foreign Ministers. “Argument developed among the deputies over the transfer of titles to German assets in Austria. Mr Gusev (Russia) said that in the eastern zone the Russian authorities would decide what German assets would be taken. The French representative considered that all German assets should not be taken from Austria, and felt that the opinion of the four Powers would be useful. Lord Hood (Britain) said it would be not only useful, but necessary. General Mark Clark (United States) said that while recognising each Power’s right to decide for itself what should be taken from eachjtone, America was ready to participate in a fourPower discussion if the others did. Mr Gusev, however, said the Russians would refuse to participate.
