After service during World War I he joined ,o?n Lan j . an< s Survey Department in } 919 - ln 1936 was transferred to the Native Department to undertake professional duties.

.On his appointment to the position of Chief Surveyor at Blenheim in 1940 he returned to ffle Lands and Survey Department and went to major land development areas at Te Kuiti in 1945 Mr Ropiha is a member of a wellknown Maori of Porangahau.
