APPOINTMENT OF MR T. T. ROPIHA (PjA.) WELLINGTON, March 14. rhe appointment is announced of assistant-under-secretary and deputvnative trustee of the Native Department. This is a new position to provide assistance to the Under-Secre-tary (Mr G P Shepherd). Mr Tipi £ -2 1 been appointed by the Public Service Commission to the new post. At present superintendent of land development in the Lands and Survey Department at Te Kuiti? Mr Ropiha joined the Public Works Department a 3 a clerical cadet in 1913 at the age after a distinguished career as a scholar at Te Aute College. After service during World War I he joined ,o?n Lan j . an< s Survey Department in } 919 - ln 1936 was transferred to the Native Department to undertake professional duties.
.On his appointment to the position of Chief Surveyor at Blenheim in 1940 he returned to ffle Lands and Survey Department and went to major land development areas at Te Kuiti in 1945 Mr Ropiha is a member of a wellknown Maori of Porangahau.
