CHEVIOT CLUB

TROTTING

TO-DAY’S PROSPECTS Abel Tasman and Silverlight have come into favour for the Cheviot Cup, the main event at the Cheviot Trotting Club’s meeting, which will- be held at Rangiora to-day, and they are expected to extend the favourite, Volo Lad, over the concluding stages of the two-mile journey. Peter’s Pal - a consistent Quite Sure gelding from R. Townley’s stable, has only finished out of the money iff three of his 12 races this season, and together with Theabelle, which is trained at Addington by L. O. The Domett Handicap, a race for maiden trotters, has attracted a field of 26, and unless withdrawals are heavy ic will be run in two divisions. The aged trotters, Beethoven and Olympus, have both been racing consistently, and they may fight out the finish of the first division with newcomers in High Stakes and Shannon also prominent. Doreano won a race at Ashburton recently, and he should show up in the second division with Accord, Our Nulgie, and Silver Volo possibilities for the minor places. Most of the horses at the meeting have A wo - engagements and form shown in the first eight events should prove a reliable guide to the last half of the programme.
