ALBURY EWE FAIR
“ The Press ” Special Service • TIMARU, March 14. The Albury ewe fair was the best sale to date. There was keen competition from Down country farmers and prices were greatly in advance of values paid so lar this season. The entry comprised about 9000 ewes and ewe lambs, and sheep offered were for the most part in excel lent condition and did not reflect the poor spring. The bulk of the yarding was late shorn, but this fact did not handicap the sheep. The sale was a very buoyant one, and was completed oy the auctioneers in good time. The better class four and five-year ewes gained the late sneanng handicap, but the highest improvement m prices was for the ewes with doubtful mouths, and also the two-tooth ewes, these appreciating from 5s to 8s on last season’s values, and being 9s up on this season’s rates. The ewe lambs were al«o keenly sought after, the market being unsatisfied. As at other sales, the yards weie rot taxed to the utmost and showed that South Canterbury has no surplus of Values were:— Two-tooth Romney and Romney cross ewes: best quality, 41s to 455; good quality, 38s to 40s 6d; medium. 34s to 37s 6d; inferior, 25s to 325. Two-tooth half bred ewes: best, 37s to 41s 6d; medium, 33s to 365; inferior, 27s to 31s Ewe Lamos.—Best, 28s to 32s Id; meaium 25s to 275; inferior, 22s to 24s 6d.
