AUSTRALIA’S NEW GOVERNOR-GENERAL TAKES OFFICE.—Mr W. J. McKell, until recently Labour Premier of New South Wales, was sworn in as Governor-General of Australia in Canberra last Tuesday. This photograph, taken after the ceremony, shows the Leader of the Opposition (Mr R. G. Menzies) being received by his Excellency. In spite of an assurance given by the leaders of the Opposition parties that there would be no boycott of the swearing-in ceremony, many Opposition members and invited guests were absent. A number of Labour members also did not attend.
