RADIO STATION FOR TIMARU
BUILDINGS TO BE INSPECTED "I have to inform you that, in the near future, officers of the New Zealand Broadcasting Service will visit Timaru in an endeavour to obtain a satisfactory building for alteration into temporary broadcasting studios, so that a station can be established at the earliest possible date,” the Minister in charge of Broadcasting (Mr F. Jones) has advised Mr Clyde Carr. M.P. for Timaru. “The properties, which were mentioned by yourself and the Mayor as being suitable, have been inspected; but after a perusal of the locations and the materials of which the buildings are constructed, these have been found not to be altogether satisfactory,” said Mr Jones. “The order for the supply of a two kilowatt transmitting station has been placed, and present indications are that it will be some time before delivery is made. The Government has approved of the purchase of a permanent site, and provisional discusssions have been carried out with the Town Advisory Planning Committee.” .
