S.P.C.A.
Sir,—Mrs Spence-Clark and others mentioned in your report are to be commended for defending the treatment of animals at the S.P.C.A. clinic. I, personally, am more than grateful to the officer in charge for his treatment of a valuable sheepdog. Both foreleg bones were smashed and turned septic. This poor dog’s leg had to be seen to be believed. I have had the dog out mustering again just a little over two months after his arrival at the clinic. I have not as yet reached a stage in life where I can count on preferential treatment, and venture to say the same service is available to the genera] public. In conclusion, being more than grateful that my dog is still alive. I don’t intend to quibble at the “exorbitant charges” made by the clinic.—Yours, etc., D MACDONALD. Parikawa, March, 4, 1947.'
Sir, —I appreciate “For the Victim’s” letter. It is true that I am in a position to know more about stray animals than most, having helped, for at out nine years my. sister, Miss O. Barr, who was the founder of the work which brought the Animals’ Protection Society into existence in September, 1937. Miss O. Barr was appointed an honorary city dog ranger in November, 1942, and is still serving in that capac-
ity. With regard to not being given a hearing at the recent meeting, if the chairman thought my object was to discuss the affairs- of another society, he was right in his ruling. My object was not that, but was one which, later, I may achieve in another way.—Yours, etc., BEATRICE BARR. March 7, 1947.
