There were only five or six shopkeepers who wished to close all day on Saturdays. • Cr ;u!g,% Ly° ns said that, following the definite suggestion that shopkeepers at New Brighton and Sumner had to close on Saturday without respect to what day was the statutory closing day, the by-laws committee consulted the council’s solicitors. The committee was given a fairly lengthy opinion, but the gist of it was that the Arbitration Court had not yet the right to overrule the Legislature, and that it was competent for the council to fix the statutory closing day of the seas, e suburb B - The evidence was overwhelming that the people of the suburbs preferred Wednesday.
