THEFTS IN CITY

PREMISES BROKEN INTO

The strongroom of the Co-operative Distributors, Ltd., 208 Tuam street,, was broken into late on Sunday afternoon and about £7OO was stolen. Modern Fashions, Ltd. which is next door, was also entered and about £8 was taken from the office.

Locks on- the gates of• P. and D. Duncan, Ltd., were forced*, and the

thieves took from there a sledge hammer which was used for breaking into the other buildings. The thieves got into the premises of the Canterbury Co-opera-tive Distributors, Ltd., through a broken skylight, and apparently the sledge hammer was used to. attack the brick wall of the strongroom, a hole big enough for a man to crawl through being made. The safe was tipped over and the back torn off. Some of the cheques taken by the thieves are crossed and will not be of value.
